Instant Heart Rate ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is an app that actually and literally measures your heart beat / rate. This sounds like a novelty or a toy but it actually works quite well with great accuracy. It uses the iPhone 4’s LED flash to measure your finger’s blood stream, the same method used by medical pulse oximeters. The app saves readable graphs, shows real-time PPG (like EKG) and very easy to use.
Meal Snap ★★★☆☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a health / photography app that takes pictures of meals you eat and tells you what food it is as well as the calories they contain. In theory it sounds amazing but fails to be consistent and not all that accurate. However it does work but not recommended if you need to track your foods with precision. Perhaps in an update of two or if camera technology gets better this could be a truly amazing iOS app.
