Imagine The Scale ★★★★★ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is an app the visually and understandably shows the scale of the smallest to the biggest things known in the known universe. If you have the slightest interest in science or just space, you need to get this app and don’t be scared off by the current 2.5 star average on the App Store. Despite the fact that it was last updated in 2009 and lacks retina display support, this is such a creative and fascinating app we give it 5 stars. It starts from a helium atom to humans to planets to galaxies and more. All objects can be tapped for more details. It also has an awesome classic space opera theme song to go along with this “journey”
Decibel Meter Pro ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an app that measures decibels. The great thing about iOS apps is that there are a lot of things apps can do that are very specific and do it very well, and nothing else. Decibel Meter Pro is one of those applications. Even though it is considered an Entertainment App, the result of decibel measurements are surprising accurate - using the iPhone or iPad’s built in mics. The user interface is quite fantastic and looks even better than the real thing.
Cyborg Vision ★★★★★ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an augmented real-time facial recognition app that mimics the Terminator’s (film) vision. Cyborg Vision actually has some great function and uses. Tied to Facebook, when you scan a human’s face, it will look up their profile and gives you an on screen analysis with details like; name, hometown, gender, birthday, location and even if they are currently smiling or not. It also has the iOS devices current latitude and longitude. All the animations and user interface is done extremely well and some updates could make this app even better.
Roll It Up ★★★☆☆ ($1.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a virtual smoking and rolling machine app. Using great photorealistic 3D rendered images Roll It Up does an incredible job to simulate not just the hand rolling process but smoking a joint as well. You can use multi-touch to roll the joint and the accelerometer as well as the microphone to smoke it up. The app currently only uses tobacco leaves which looks nice but I’m sure many of the app downloaders are wishing for some green weeds and different type of rolling materials. Great for what it is, an entertainment app.
B.S. Meter ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a novelty lie detector app that has some actual real life applications as well as humor. Although the app doesn’t actually tell if someone is lying, the way that its built makes it a great gag. The app itself looks and sounds pretty legit. Just ask your subject a question and you control how the meter will result. Move your thumb to the right and its the truth and left for a lie - lies sounds like a geiger meter going off. Works as advertised and great for many laughs.
Zen Brush ★★★★★ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an ink brush drawing app. While there is a huge market in the App Store for painting and drawing apps - some complex with tons of features - Zen Brush really shines because of its raw simplicity. While simple, results of the pieces can be quite beautiful. Using your fingers as an ink brush on smooth glass somehow does have a zen feeling.
