Infinity Blade 2 ★★★★★ ($6.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an epic sword fighting game with a touch of RPG. Sequels in movies are rarely as good as the first but in video games, their expected to be better - with Infinity Blade 2, it does that and so much more on an already perfect game. The graphics speak for themselves as its comparable to the PS3 or XBOX 360. The game play is outstanding and no other can match the intuitiveness of the touch-slash-sword methodology. The intriguing story follows from the first to a full featured and ultra cinematic presentation. The original Infinity Blade was the 2010 iOS game of the year and so will this. Infinity Blade 2 is without question the greatest game to come out to the iPhone or iPad, ever.

Imagine The Scale ★★★★★ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is an app the visually and understandably shows the scale of the smallest to the biggest things known in the known universe. If you have the slightest interest in science or just space, you need to get this app and don’t be scared off by the current 2.5 star average on the App Store. Despite the fact that it was last updated in 2009 and lacks retina display support, this is such a creative and fascinating app we give it 5 stars. It starts from a helium atom to humans to planets to galaxies and more. All objects can be tapped for more details. It also has an awesome classic space opera theme song to go along with this “journey”

Bear Grylls: Essentials ★★★★☆ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPod Touch is an interactive outdoor survival guide and tool. Developed and presented by the most famous survival expert, Bear Grylls. The app has 18 chapters, 100 photos, 40 videos, 35 interactive illustrations and some tools like an “analog” clock and weather predictor. Although this app doesn’t contain as much details as the SAS Survival Guide, Bear Grylls: Essentials is just as good because of the high graphical presentation and video media. With this app, your iPhone may actually be of some use when there is no service and your life depends on survival knowledge.

RPM: Gymkhana Racing ★★★☆☆ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a stunt driving game. This is a true arcade type of racing game with heavy drifting the core of the game play. The handling is good for anyone to master with the graphics nice enough but not as great as other racers. There are 25 tracks of which none are linear and has a funky sound track. If Real Racing is professional golf, RPM is miniature golf. But that’s not a bad thing because of the charm, wackiness, obstacles and laid back feeling. If your a fan of unique driving games, RPM: Gymkhana Racing is worth a test drive.

DreamBook ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a dream interpretation guide. Everyone has dreams but we still like to think there are special meanings to them but can’t quite interpret. DreamBook was designed specifically for that task. The app has dream knowledge of Sigmund Freud, Nostradamus, Hasse, Vanga and Gustavus Miller to interpret over 15,000 types of dreams. DreamBook has a great look with a usable interface and a calendar with journal. Using the Inception dream inducer app with this could have some interesting results. Now if only it could help us remember our dreams better.

Superman ★★★☆☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a 2D game that lets you take control of the Man of Steel. For such a powerful and classic character as Superman, you would figure there would be many well made video games. Well there are many iterations in history but none are any good. Oddly enough, this new iOS version is arguably the best Superman game yet. The game play is quite simple but intuitive and it just works. You get to roam around Metropolis as well as space doing what he does best, saving the day. There is an actual plot, told in comic book style. Although the game is a relatively short 18 missions, any Superman fan should pick this up for a mere .99 cents.

Primrose Bakery ★★★★☆ ($3.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a cupcake specialty cook book app. Recipes are straight from the actual world famous Primrose Bakery cupcake shop located in London. The app shows in a very beautiful pastel colored user interface with delicious picture how to bake 70 cupcakes, layer cakes and other similar sinful desserts. The clever utilization of the proximity meter of the iPhone allows for touchless page turning while cooking by a simply wave of the hand. This is the ultimate cupcake app for anyone with the only thing keeping it from a 5 star app is the lack of U.S. conversions, nothing an update can’t fix - which has been promised by the developer.

Combining an already great retro game to modern graphics and gameplay, Super Crossfire is one of the most intense and addictive space shooters on the iOS. Call of Mini: Double Shot ★☆☆☆☆ ($1.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a top down dual joystick co-op zombie shooter game. On the surface and at first glance this is a pretty nice game. But after a closer look you will realize this is a shallow, extremely repetitive and greedy game. The cute and nice graphics with a fairly robust upgrade system (of which will cost you real money to fully upgrade) is not enough to warrant a purchase on this game. The game play works great but each level is literally the same as the last with the only difference being more baddies. Even though this is a paid app, there are ads specifically placed in places by the navigation buttons so you can click it by accident and much of the game can not be completed without actually spending real money. This is one of the worst examples of a greedy developer. Shame on you Triniti.

Agenda ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a minimal and gesture heavy calendar app. Connected to the iOS’s built in calendar, Agenda is stripped of all unnecessary elements without losing functionality. The end result is a beautiful and highly accessible calendar with a very intuitive gesturing system maximize speed. Similar to Calvetica, this app focuses on minimalistic design, clean simplicity and ease of use with great results. If the built in calendar app is not good enough for you, Agenda is definitely one of the best ones in the App Store.

Vegas Mate ★★★☆☆ ($1.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a Las Vegas tourist guide. Despite the ugly and outdated user interface, the amount of hotels, casinos, restaurants, shows and nightclubs with extensive details makes up for that. Vegas Mate has user reviews of all the events and venues from real people, photos (not professional) and a map system that will come in very handy. For a “Vegas” app, you would expect a lot of flash but its still worth it for the usable information it contains.

Lifelike Craigslist ★★★★★ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is the perfect Craigslist app. There is an enormous amount of Craigslist apps (free and paid) that range from crap to great, Lifelike Craigslist is exceptional. If your a frequent Craigslister, you must get this app. It is fully functional like the website but with even more features and usability. The app looks incredible on the iPhone and even better on the iPad. In fact its so good that you will dismiss the actual Craigslist website altogether.

Type n Walk ★★☆☆☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a text writing app designed specifically for typing while walking. A few minutes in a crowded city will reveal how many people walk dangerously with their head down looking at their smartphone typing away. Type n Walk in theory should alleviate this modern epidemic by having a transparent canvas - it looks like your looking through the camera while typing so you can see your path in front of you. It can compose and send SMS, emails and Tweets or simply copy the text to paste for later use. Two major missing elements keep this from being a 4 star app; the keyboard itself is completely opaque and there is no landscape mode.

Gangstar Rio: City of Saints ★★★★☆ ($6.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is the third and most recent GTA clone game from Gameloft. This time you play in a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil sand box - a free roaming world. The graphics have been heavily upgraded from the previous versions but the streets still feel empty. Driving mechanics have improved but still needs work. There are 60 official missions to complete with much more random events. Discovering Rio joy riding doing nothing alone could be worth most people’s money. Even with the impending release of the legendary Grand Theft Auto 3 for iOS, Gangstar Rio is an excellent game - even if only to satisfy the itch of the real GTA.

EPOCH ★★★★☆ ($5.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a post-apocalyptic robot combat game strictly with cover shooting. Despite the fact that EPOCH is an on-rails game, the action is superbly intense and heavy. The cover-system is perhaps the best in all iOS games to date. There is a decent level of replay value as each mission earns you income to earn upgrades and weapons. Even the story is interesting and well done. Powered by the UnrealEngine like Infinity Blade, the graphics are stunning and run incredibly well.

Finger Focus ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is an image editing app with a very specific function; focus and blur. Blurring out the background or certain elements of a photo or focusing on objects tend to significantly enhance photos. Usually this could only be done with expensive cameras - not mobile phones. Finger Focus makes it exceedingly easy to accomplish great blur and focus effects just by touching / rubbing the wanted parts just like Color Splash. Other features include contrast, brightness and saturation controls.

AirCassette ★★★★★ ($1.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPod Touch is a music player that looks, works and thinks its an old fashioned cassette tape player. Combining the most current music technology(digital) with one from 2 generations ago(tape) is a match made in heaven. AirCassette basically mimics how tapes work right before your eyes. The app uses your device’s CoverFlow and MP3 details to show up on each “tape” in hand written fonts as well as the actual mechanic movements. This is one cool retro app!

Flare ★★★☆☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a camera app that captures HDR (High Dynamic Range) filming video effects. Flare uses an image-processing algorithm to try to perform real time HDR effects. Considering its just an app, it works decently but compared to high quality HDR photos it pails in comparison - not surprisingly. It still is an awesome addition to your video / photography app collection if your a collector. Currently Flare shoots in only 640x360 with a frame rate 24fps on the iPhone 4. With some tweaks and updates in the future, this app could be a truly amazing camera.

Decibel Meter Pro ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an app that measures decibels. The great thing about iOS apps is that there are a lot of things apps can do that are very specific and do it very well, and nothing else. Decibel Meter Pro is one of those applications. Even though it is considered an Entertainment App, the result of decibel measurements are surprising accurate - using the iPhone or iPad’s built in mics. The user interface is quite fantastic and looks even better than the real thing.
