Flare ★★★☆☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a camera app that captures HDR (High Dynamic Range) filming video effects. Flare uses an image-processing algorithm to try to perform real time HDR effects. Considering its just an app, it works decently but compared to high quality HDR photos it pails in comparison - not surprisingly. It still is an awesome addition to your video / photography app collection if your a collector. Currently Flare shoots in only 640x360 with a frame rate 24fps on the iPhone 4. With some tweaks and updates in the future, this app could be a truly amazing camera.
Decibel Meter Pro ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an app that measures decibels. The great thing about iOS apps is that there are a lot of things apps can do that are very specific and do it very well, and nothing else. Decibel Meter Pro is one of those applications. Even though it is considered an Entertainment App, the result of decibel measurements are surprising accurate - using the iPhone or iPad’s built in mics. The user interface is quite fantastic and looks even better than the real thing.
Reckless Getaway ★★★★☆ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is a top down arcade car chasing game. Instead of just going as fast as you can from point A to B like most other racing games, Reckless Getaway has more thrill as you are chased by countless cops and other forces in highly interactive tracks. The story is simple; you robbed a bank and trying to getaway - and that’s all you need. The levels are highways, streets, backyards, alleys, farms and factories with traffic and all sorts of obstacles to tackle as if it were the things you would encounter in a real police chase. Controls are dead simple but effective with fun and playful physics.
Cyborg Vision ★★★★★ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPad is an augmented real-time facial recognition app that mimics the Terminator’s (film) vision. Cyborg Vision actually has some great function and uses. Tied to Facebook, when you scan a human’s face, it will look up their profile and gives you an on screen analysis with details like; name, hometown, gender, birthday, location and even if they are currently smiling or not. It also has the iOS devices current latitude and longitude. All the animations and user interface is done extremely well and some updates could make this app even better.
Tie Right ★★★★☆ ($.99 / App Store) for the iPhone is a reference and guide app that helps you tie neck ties. For some, tying ties is a difficult task that seems to be impossible to master. Tie Right is just the right application to whip out to make 6 different tie styles including: small knot, windsor knot, half windsor knot, four in hand knot, pratt knot and even a bow tie. The great part about this app is the visual guide can be viewed from a first person / real photo perspective or a graphical third person view. So now there is no excuse to not being able to tie a tie.
Off to bed! ★★★★☆ ($2.99 / App Store) for the iPhone and iPod Touch is and interactive visual book specifically designed to get your child to sleep. In the developer’s own words: “It is the perfect application to facilitate the parenting task of getting children to bed. Through the story the kid learns the ritual of sleep.” This app also plays pleasant and melodic background music to further enhance falling asleep as well as voice over by a human voice as well as automatic page turning (which all can be turned off), so the parent won’t even have to read.
